Dos
Don'ts
Dos
- Use a pair of tweezers that you can securely and easily handle.
- Always clean and disinfect tweezers with alcohol before and after each use.
- Always do the tweezing in a spot with plenty of space, where you can steadily place
your mirror and have enough light.
- To make tweezing less painful and more effective, before tweezing open the pores
by either applying a hot washcloth to the face or by tweezing after taking a hot
bath or shower.
- Always tweeze in the direction of hair growth.
- Tweezing could make skin red. If you tweeze before going to sleep the redness will
be gone by morning.
- After a couple of eyebrow tweezing sessions you should get used the pain, however
if this is your first time tweezing you could apply baby's teething gel to the eyebrows
to numb the area and make the process less painful.
- Always place a cap to protect the tips of your tweezers.
- When creating the eyebrow shape make sure that it looks natural and follows the
natural line of your brow bone.
- When creating a new shape for the eyebrows study the shape of your eye and eyebrow
in the mirror and outline the desired form with a make-up concealer or an eye pencil,
and then pluck out hairs that are outside the line.
- Before creating the eyebrow shape brush the hairs upward to see the actual, natural
arch of the eyebrows and brow bone.
- Place tweezers closer to the root of the hair and pull with a gentle and smooth
motion.
- Tweeze hairs one at a time.
- Stretch the skin from the area to be tweezed. This will prevent the tweezers from
pinching the skin and will help the hairs to come out easier and with less pain.
- After tweezing pat the eye area with a tea bag to sooth the skin.
- First tweeze out the stray hairs, they are usually fine and cause less pain, and
won't affect the shape as much.
- First pluck under the brow and try not to pluck hairs on top at all.
- Make sure the eyebrow shape on both eyes is symmetrical.
- Use a brow mousse to keep your eyebrow shape tidy and in place. It is a clear, fragrance-free,
non-sticky gel that also conditions the brow hairs.
- The spring tension on the tweezers could be increased by gently pulling the two
halves apart. But be careful, after the tension is increased it cannot be decreased.

DON'TS
- Don't apply moisturizers, lotions, creams or creamy makeup before tweezing. First,
it will make tweezing hard by making hair and skin slippery. Second, plucking will
open up pores allowing lotions and creams to enter and could cause an infection.
- Don't use alcohol on the skin after tweezing. Plucking agitates the skin, alcohol
will only irritate it more.
- Never tweeze nose hairs. Besides burst capillaries this could cause a dangerous
infection. Instead nose hairs should be trimmed.
- Never tweeze hairs growing out of moles.
- Don't soak your tweezers in detergents or in plain water.
- Don't drop the tweezers as this can dull the tips and mess up their alignment.
- Don't dye eyebrows, it could cause eye irritation.
- Be careful not to over-tweeze your eyebrows. Even one hair could mess up the overall
shape.
