While it's wonderful to visit a spa with your best girlfriends to relax and have
some serious fun, there are some downsides to doing this. It may involve travel
for you or your friends, you probably won't have the privacy you want or need, and
it's definitely expensive. The good news is that a home pedicure party can give
you the best of a spa experience without the stress and the added expense. And you
can have as many parties as you want!
Imagine you and your girlfriends sharing a wonderful time together, relaxing, talking,
laughing and having fun, while getting your nails done in the comfort of your own
home. This activity can be just a little interlude for a couple of hours or it can
be included in a baby or bachelorette shower. Your pedicure party could even lead
into a full out sleepover pajama party. (Remember how much fun you had at those
when you were a child?)
For this special time of pampering with your friends, make sure you have plenty
of towels, both paper and fabric, cotton pads, and possibly a set of orange sticks,
so that there are enough for everyone. You'll need a few basins for at least half
the number of your guests or use one basin and decide in which order you'll get
to soak your feet. The basin(s) should be big enough to fit both feet and since
this may lead to splashing and water spills, take anything that could be damaged
by water out of the room.
Prepare some soap and lotion, although your friends may prefer to bring their own.
Set up the sitting arrangement to make it cozy for chatting and to allow enough
room for painting each other's nails. Have some essential oils or scrubs for your
guests; perhaps you could ask their preferences before the party and have their
favorites on hand. It is also possible that some participants may need to remove
their nail polish, so it may be a good idea to get a bottle of scentless, non-toxic
nail polish remover. Besides sparing you from the unpleasant smell, you'll be using
a non-carcinogenic and earth-friendly product.
Ask your friends to bring their favorite nail polishes since you all may have different
preferences and tastes. Although a pedicure is a time for pampering and promoting
a feeling of well being, this may also be a good opportunity to suggest healthy
alternatives to conventional nail polishes. There are several non-toxic, water-based
polishes that don't have a strong odor and are actually safer to use. Tell your
friends about them and perhaps these products will be their new favorites!
Besides having supplies for the pedicure itself, it would be great to set up the
house to make the evening even more pleasurable. Consider these tips to create an
atmosphere that would get you and your friends in a rather festive mood:
- Pick a spot that is easily ventilated and has enough light and space.
- Decorate with some flowers, but avoid fragrant blooms, like lilies, in case your
friends may have allergies. The same consideration also applies to air fresheners
or scented candles.
- Put plenty of soft pillows around the room. Besides making the sitting arrangement
more comfortable, it may give a moment or two of pillow-throwing fun!
- For hygiene reasons, tell your friends to bring their personal grooming instruments,
favorite creams or lotion, and a pair of flip-flops.
- You can also make the atmosphere warmer and cozy by lighting a few candles
- Don't forget the snacks and a variety of drinks.
- Use music to set the mood.
With a personal pedicure party, you can take your time, relax as long as you want
and enjoy all the comforts of home. Tell your friends to dress comfortably and get
ready to have some fun. Who wouldn't want to spend some time with good friends,
