Getting a personal toolbox is a rite of passage, so is getting your own, personal
set of grooming instruments. If you or your loved one doesn't yet have any instruments
of their own it is high time they enter your lives in style!
If you've never used grooming tools before we recommend that as a beginner you get
the basic tools of the trade. When you become more familiar with the process you
might want to get additional, more specialized tools, but to begin stick to the

BEGIN WITH THE BASICS
Sometimes people suggest that for the "first try" you should get the cheapest thing
possible, so that you won't "waste" money if you won't continue using the product.
In the case of grooming tools the price of the item should not be the most important
characteristic that governs your choice, especially if this is your first set of
tools. We're not suggesting that you run out and buy the most expensive instruments
either! High price doesn't always guarantee good results. Instead you should concentrate
on quality tools, simple and easy to use basics. Besides, quality grooming tools
are never a waste of money!
Besides looking at quality, for your first instruments get the essential tools that
and those that are comfortable to use. To make your search easier we've put together
a complete beginner's kit and a description of each tool that makes it up. You may
choose to get the complete beginners kit
or look through the
various products that are included in such a kit
And remember, your grooming tools are made to care for your hands, and should never
be used for anything else.
TOOLS FOR THE BEGINNER (MANICURE KIT)
No matter what your gender or what you'd like your nails to look like, to keep your
nails clean and trimmed you will need these basics:
- Nail scissors
- Nail file
- Cuticle pusher
- Cuticle nippers
- Nail Cleaner
Sharp and curved to precisely and accurately cut your finger nails without those
painful, jagged breaks or bends that you could get with some other nails. These
scissors should be used for a fairly precise cutting and trimming of your finger
nails to the desired length.
For finer adjustments in length and to get your nails smooth and accurate after
all the cutting and trimming use a nail file. If your nails seem to catch on fabrics
you may quickly file away any snags. In a basic manicure file the front and sides
of your nails to the desired length. Don't file too deeply on the sides to avoid
damaging the cuticles and finger pads. All of your filling motions should be done
gently and in one direction.
Cuticle pusher is the tool used to push back the growth of the cuticles and skin
of the nail bed to prevent painful hangnails, keep your nails and cuticles healthy
and neat. While preventing overgrowth of the cuticle regular pushing back of the
cuticles also cleans out the nail bed of the dead skin and dirt. In a pinch a cuticle
pusher could also be used to clean out the dirt under the nails as well.
After all the cleaning and pushing you need to gently and precisely snip away just
the tiny leftover overgrowth of the cuticles. A pair of finely sharpened cuticle
nippers is just the tool for the job. The tapered off, narrow shape of the blades
is made especially to get into those tight spots where dead skin sometimes hides
and at the same time remove just the needed amount, without cutting off live skin
or causing damage.
Healthy and accurate fingers and nails need to be cleaned from the dirt, sometimes
barely visible, that accumulates under your nails on regular basis. A nail cleaner
is made just for this purpose. Place the tip of the cleaner at the side of the nail,
between the nail and the skin, and gently run it through the length of the nail
removing dirt on the other side or onto the surface of the cleaner.
This article provides you with helpful information about a set of individual instruments
that we've gathered together to illustrate various manicure tools. You could purchase
the full kit or only certain items from it. However if you'd rather purchase the
complete suite of instruments from the same manufacture and made of the same materials
consider the convenience of purchasing a manicure set instead. In addition to providing
you with the unity of instruments it will also supply you with a case to conveniently
carry them all together.
